Students who were issued a Weatherford ISD technology device for learning at home during the COVID-19 closing may begin turning them in next week. These devices (iPads, Chromebooks, and Hotspots) can be returned to the campus on the scheduled date that has been shared with families or you may return them to the Technology department, located at 1100 Longhorn Drive, on the following dates/times. (Please see the attached traffic flow pattern.)

Please note: If your student is participating in a WISD sponsored summer school program, devices will be returned when school resumes in the fall.

Following a search process that began in March, Weatherford ISD is proud to announce its new superintendent, Dr. Beau Rees. The district’s Board of Trustees named him as lone finalist on April 9, 2020, and after a state-mandated 21-day waiting period, unanimously named him superintendent of schools at a Special Meeting held on May 4, 2020.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce services for Sam Shirley, a social studies teacher, and JV coach for baseball and football. This is an incredibly sad time for our high school family and for our students who had Mr. Shirley as a teacher or coach.

The family has requested that any of his friends or colleagues that come to the service to wear Roo Blue in his honor.

Herff Jones and WHS staff will be at Weatherford High School on Wednesday, April 29 to conduct a drive-thru pick up from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm for seniors to pick up their graduation announcements and regalia.

In order to limit the number of pickups at one time, there will be 4 alphabetically arranged groups. In order to limit contact between the people distributing, and students or parents, the following protocols must be followed.

o Prior to arriving, please write the first and last name of the student in bold print on a full-size sheet of paper.
o The vehicle getting the regalia and invitations will enter the main parking lot (by the guard shack) and proceed to the delivery area by the main entrance to the High School.
o When driving through, the vehicle will pull up to the distribution point and stop. No one will be allowed to get out of the vehicle.
o You will hold up the sheet with the student name in the window to be read by the distribution team.
o The driver will then open the trunk, hatchback or rear lift gate of the vehicle.
o The Herff Jones representatives, or school administration, will place the regalia and invitations in the open trunk, hatchback or rear lift gate of the vehicle and close it.
o Driver will pull away with all products and exit out the south gate (by the church) on to Bethel Rd.

• Please note that orders or sales will be not be taken on this day. Only goods that have been previously ordered will be distributed. A later date will be designated for anyone who cannot make this pick-up opportunity. That date and information from Herff Jones will be given should anyone need to order anything.

• Please have payment taken care of prior to this day by visiting www.hjtexan.com. If you do not know your balance, please email Herff Jones at [email protected].

• The alpha split for groups and times for pick-up are listed below. Please stick to these pick up times to limit any delays. Parents may pick up regalia for their student. Students do not have to be present for pick up.

1:00 – 2:00 S – Z

This week, on April 29th, you will have the opportunity to pick up your graduation invitations along with graduation regalia. It is important that you gather these items because we are planning to hold Weatherford High School’s graduation ceremony on the evening of Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Kangaroo Stadium.

Dr. Reagan C. (Beau) Rees has been named lone finalist for the position of superintendent by the Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees. The unanimous vote took place during a special meeting held on April 9, 2020. Texas law requires the WISD board wait 21 days before formally approving a contract with Dr. Rees.

Dr. Renee Treat was named principal for Tison Middle School at tonight’s regular meeting of the WISD Board of Trustees. Dr. Treat holds a Bachelor of Science degree from McMurry University in education, communication, and English; a Master’s in Education from Midwestern State University in educational leadership, and a Doctorate in Education from Abilene Christian University in organizational leadership.
From 2006-2016, Dr. Treat served as an assistant principal, principal, and Director of Professional Development in Crowley ISD. Since 2016, she has served as the Director of Organizational Effectiveness at ESC Region 11.

Dear Weatherford ISD Families –

Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott amended his Executive Order, calling for all schools in the state of Texas to close for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This means Weatherford ISD facilities will remain closed to the public and all events/activities will be canceled.

Weatherford ISD will continue offering distance learning to all students through the end of this school year. The final day of distance learning will be June 1, 2020. We will also continue offering free meals to children of age 18 and under.

We know this decision may be disappointing to our students and that it raises many questions, particularly for our senior class and their families. We expect to receive information and guidance from Mike Morath, Texas Commissioner of Education, next week regarding graduation ceremonies.

Weatherford ISD is an amazing school district with staff who are dedicated to caring for our students and families. Our staff and our families have risen to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 closing.

We thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we work continue to provide for our students.

Jonathan Wagner has been named the boys head basketball coach for Weatherford High School. Coach Wagner has 24 years of coaching experience including leading Arlington Heights High School to the State Tournament in 2013. Most recently he has served as the boys head basketball coach at Wichita Falls High School.

“I love coaching basketball,” Wagner said. “My dream ever since I was in junior high school was to be a coach. I am the person I am today, partly because what my coaches invested in me. I want to be that person for the athletes of Weatherford ISD.”

Coach Wagner has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Studies from Texas Wesleyan University. Please join us in welcoming Coach Wagner to the Kangaroo family!
