Kindergarten students at Seguin Elementary had the opportunity to Skype with renowned children’s author Howard Binkow last week.

WHS student Lane Guest recently traveled to the State Capitol in Austin to participate in the Honorary Page Program. Lane spent the afternoon on the floor of the House, during their regular session, as State Representative Phil King’s page.

Tonight's freshmen and junior varsity baseball games at Paschal have been cancelled and move to Wednesday due to wet field conditions.

The Weatherford ISD family mourns the loss of our beloved Shirley Hall. Her service to the students and staff at Weatherford ISD is truly unsurpassed.

In 1960, Mrs. Hall was elected to the Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees. She held several positions on the school board during her 30 year tenure, serving as president in 1973-1974 and 1982-1983. She also served as president for the Texas Association of School Boards and for the National Association of School Boards. She participated in many school board committees including the Committee for Teacher Evaluation, the Committee of Advisors for Gifted Education, the Task Force for Community Involvement, and was an active member of the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented. Because of her passion for education, she was appointed to a five-member Select Committee by the Texas Governor and attended the National Leadership Training Institute for the Gifted and Talented in Washington, D.C. In 1975, she served as state president of Gifted Education. Mrs. Hall led the effort for community education and in 1970, Weatherford ISD became the first public school district in Texas to establish a Community Education Department. Our Community Education continues to be one of the premier programs in the state and is currently celebrating its 45th year.

Mrs. Hall was the mother of five children, all of whom attended and graduated from Weatherford High School. She was active as a campus and PTA volunteer during those years, holding leadership positions on campus PTAs and on the Weatherford Council of PTAs. At her final school board meeting in May 1990, the Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees honored her by changing the name of Weatherford Middle School to Shirley Hall Middle School. In 2006 she was the recipient of the Weatherford ISD Ex-Student Association's Distinguished Service Award.

In all of her areas of service to Weatherford ISD, Mrs. Hall was always focused on making decisions that were in the best interest of our students. Her legacy for quality education in Weatherford ISD will continue as students and staff pass thru the doors of Shirley Hall Middle School.

Weatherford ISD has been out in our community giving presentations about our May 9th bond election. We’ve presented to our staff, parents, civic clubs, booster clubs, and community leaders. In all, we’ve dozens of presentations, but we may have missed you!

Please join us for a community bond information presentation to learn what’s proposed, ask questions, and tour Hall Middle School. Two community presentations are scheduled: Tuesday, April 14 and Monday, April 27 at 7:00 pm at Hall Middle School cafeteria with tours of the facility from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.

A group of teachers and administrators from Weatherford ISD’s Teachers Visioning Group traveled to the Education Service Center Region 11 yesterday in Fort Worth to hear Don Wettrick (a.k.a. The Innovation Teacher) talk about how to help students find their educational opportunities and provide them with the digital tools they need for a competitive edge. Not only did they return to work on Tuesday with a few autographed books and a wealth of additional information that they learned from the session – but they also inspired Wettrick to come to Weatherford.

Congratulations to all of the Weatherford ISD athletes from both Hall Middle School and Tison Middle School who participated in this week's 2015 Quad-County District Track Meet at Kangaroo Stadium.

Members of the Weatherford Police Department made a special appearance at Seguin Elementary on Monday to visit fourth graders who wrote "Thank You" letters to them back in January as part of the Great Kindness Challenge.

Sixth graders at Curtis Elementary have been working on a project to gather student opinion, create, design, budget, and scale a city park design. Last week, City of Weatherford Park Projects Supervisor Gary Miller came by to judge approximately 26 project presentations.

Weatherford's varsity tennis team is gearing up for this week's district tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington.

Members of the Weatherford ISD band program will be hosting concerts, a silent auction, and bake sale on April 11 in both the WHS Cafeteria and Durant Auditorium from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Congratulations to Weatherford High School art/photography/sculpture teacher Diane Bolinger for having an article written about her passion for art in the March edition of "My Hometowns Texas - Cultural and Entertainment Magazine."

Athletes from Hall Middle School and Tison Middle School had good showings at the recent Zone Track Meet in Aledo. Now they are preparing for the upcoming District Track Meet April 6-7 at Kangaroo Stadium in Weatherford.

Weatherford High School’s graduation rate for the Class of 2013 was a tenth of a point shy of an all-time high at 98.6 percent, which is more than 10 percentage points higher than the state average of 88 percent (tied for third in the nation).
