2019-2020 School Calendar Survey
Dear WISD Families, Staff, Students, and Community Members,
When we develop the school calendar, we seek input from our students, employees, parents, and community. As we begin planning for the 2019-2020 school calendar, there are some considerations we want to share with you before asking for your input. To be redirected to the survey, please click on the headline.
State law requires that we provide for a set number of minutes of instruction for students and provide for staff development. Texas law also requires public schools to start the new school year on the fourth Monday of the month and for the 2019-2020 school year, that date would be Monday, August 26th.
However, in 2017, Weatherford ISD was named a District of Innovation (DOI) by the Texas Education Agency. One of the advantages of being a DOI is flexibility in how we design our school calendar. For example, being named a DOI allows Weatherford ISD to start the school year before the last Monday of the month. If we choose an earlier start date, we may be able to include additional student/staff holidays and have the opportunity to add days for staff training throughout the year. Please be aware that if we add any additional student holidays we would likely require an earlier start to the school year or need to push the end of the school year to early June.
We are in the process of developing the school calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. It is important that we receive your feedback in order to build the best calendar for Weatherford ISD.
Please take a few minutes to let us know your preferences for the 2019-2020 school calendar.
Once we receive feedback from all stakeholders, we will create two possible calendars. You will then be given the opportunity to vote on the calendar that you think best meets the needs of our students, staff, and community. This information will be given to the Board of Trustees, who will take your input into consideration when approving a calendar for 2019-2020.
Thank you!
