Weatherford ISD Responds to School Bus Accident 5-9-16

At approximately 7:40 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, a First Student school bus slid off Sweet Springs Road while transporting Weatherford ISD elementary students to school. There were twenty-four students on the bus and one bus driver.

Ambulance crews immediately responded to the scene to assess the situation. Weatherford ISD administrators and a school counselor were also at the scene to assist students and families. All students and the driver were assessed for injuries at the scene. Eight students were transported to hospitals and are currently being evaluated to determine the extent of any injuries.

“I want to applaud the emergency crews for their quick action to help our students and families,” stated Dr. Jeffrey Hanks, superintendent. “The Department of Public Safety, Parker County Sheriff’s Office, LifeCare EMS, Parker County Hospital District, and Weatherford Regional Medical Center are to be commended for their rapid response and assistance to these students and our school district. The safety of our students will always be our number one priority and we are grateful for their support.”
