She first realized that she wanted to become a teacher while sitting in her Algebra II class in high school. That teacher inspired her to become a better teacher. From that day, she envisioned herself changing the typical mold of teaching.
Bakers is passionate about giving each child the confidence and ability to become a productive citizen in their life. She counts this among her greatest accomplishment as a teacher: the day she received a handwritten letter from a former student thanking her for loving him and giving him the confidence that he could accomplish anything he wanted to.
“He had finally passed his state assessment test and he wanted me to know the impact I had on him,” she said.
This young boy was only in 6th grade…Kerry had him in 1st grade. She said that helping a child to gain confidence, critical thinking and communication skills, and empathy so they can become a productive citizen is the reason she finds joy in her career.
