Saturday marks the 10th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day and the 21st year of the “International Year of the Family,” according to Down Syndrome International’s website.
Weatherford ISD will recognize World Down Syndrome Day a day earlier so students are able to raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.
Down syndrome is a naturally chromosomal arrangement that has affected approximately 1 in 800 births, and it usually causes varying degrees of intellectual and physical disability and associated medical issues.
This year’s WDSD theme focuses on “My Opportunities, My Choices – Enjoying Full and Equal Rights and the Role of Families.
