Local auto dealers donate cars to WHS Auto Technology Program

The WHS Automotive Technology program currently has 60 students who are in grades 11 and 12. Also, a new Small Engine Technology program began this fall which allows another 60 students who are interested in the transportation career pathway to begin studying during their sophomore year.

According to the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), the high school’s Automotive Technology program is accredited based on the program’s structures, resources, and quality of training programs that are aligned with current industry standards.

NATEF guidelines also state that students must have access to automobiles that are less than nine years old in order to maintain accreditation, and both the Jerry Durant Auto Group and SouthWest Ford’s donated vehicles met those requirements.

In addition, both dealerships are also actively involved in the WHS Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee for the automotive program.
