"The Cricket in Times Square" - a 1961 Newbery Honor Book - is about a cricket named Chester who wound up in New York City by way of Connecticut. Chester makes several friends along the way, and he shares his hidden talent with them.
Thanks to a Weatherford ISD Education Foundation Grant, 425 copies of "The Cricket in Times Square" was purchased so every student could have a copy of their own book. The grant also covered the licensing fee for the novel.
Throughout the various chapters of the book, celebrities from the Weatherford community came to Austin and read to the students, and information was continuously posted on the school's website.
