In addition to internal processes designed to save energy, Weatherford ISD has worked closely with Cenergistic engineers, experts, and energy specialists to audit and optimize energy using systems across the District to achieve healthier, more energy efficient buildings since July of 2019. Because of District efforts to conserve energy, Cenergistic was on hand to present the Energy Excellence Award at last night’s school board meeting.
This is a major accomplishment for Weatherford ISD and is a direct result of the efforts of our staff to conserve energy across the district,” said Dr. Beau Rees, superintendent. “Our school board is committed to being fiscally responsible and that includes the effective and efficient use of utilities. By optimizing our infrastructure, improving our internal processes, and changing our behavior, we are working to decrease our energy consumption and save valuable resources that can be used to support other programs.”
In other action, the Board of Trustees also approved an Order providing for the redemption of certain outstanding unlimited tax refunding bond, Series, 2012. This action reduces the district’s overall debt by retiring $1,585,000 from the outstanding maturity of the Series 2012 bond and results in a cost avoidance of approximately $527,013 in bond interest. This action is a part of the overall debt management strategy adopted by the Board to reduce outstanding principal and interest. The District plans to use available supplemental levy to pay off available callable bonds resulting in an overall savings of $1,951,163 in interest over the next three years.
