WISD Schools Closed Until May 4, 2020

Dear WISD Families -

Texas Governor Greg Abbott amended his Executive Order today, calling for all schools in the state of Texas to remain closed until May 4. This means all WISD campuses, offices, and facilities will remain closed to the public and all events and activities are canceled until May 4; student learning at home and curbside meal service will continue.

WISD administrators will continue to monitor updates, recommendations, and decisions from TEA Commissioner Mike Morath as well as local, county, and staff officials.

These are certainly unprecedented times and Weatherford ISD is committed to following these decisions that are designed to keep our students, staff, families, and community healthy.

Grades Update

Due to the COVID-19 closure, Weatherford ISD will be assessing students’ work as progressing or not progressing while using remote learning. The progressing/not progressing criteria will allow students to earn credit and/or promotion without affecting GPA. Progressing “passing” or Not Progressing “failing”, will be communicated as follows:

Secondary- “Passing or Failing” grade will be recorded for a 9 week reporting period from February 24 – April 30, 2020.

Elementary- “Passing or Failing” grade will be recorded for an 8 week reporting period from March 2- April 30, 2020.

A written notice, at least once every three weeks, is due to the parents or guardian of a student if the student's performance is consistently unsatisfactory.

Students are required to complete work. Teachers will be assessing work, providing feedback, and recording progress. Students need to continue to work toward mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and promotion standards will be based on the student’s ability to demonstrate progress. It is imperative that parents, students, and teachers work together to ensure students meet these requirements and are prepared for next school year.

Elementary and Middle School Students Only: Beginning on April 13th at the latest, teachers will provide feedback to students on their assigned activities. Teachers will work with students who do not have connectivity to gather activities and provide feedback.

High School Students Only: Beginning April 13, all secondary students will upload their work in Canvas. Elective courses and CTE courses will be emailed to students. Students should have access to upload work in Canvas. Most students know how to upload, but to assist all, we have posted specific directions on the At Home School website.

Additionally, students may email work or take a picture with their phone and send to their teachers.  Additional information will be sent regarding students who do not have access to online submission of work.
